I really don't know where to find a starting point to write a letter to George Perez! I guess the most appropriate way is with a sincere, heartfelt, "thank-you" for all you have done to entertain fans across the world with your art.
I was a George Perez fan before I even knew you existed! The first comic book that I remember purchasing (without parental input) was the debut of the Salem's Seven in FANTASTIC FOUR. You may think me a liar, but every other comic book I had in my modest little collection had either a cover or interior art done by you. Keep in mind, I chose these books as a child who did not pay ANY attention to the "credit boxes" in comic books. I could have cared less who created the books! Then came THE NEW TEEN TITANS. That was when I started to take notice of the creative teams on the books. I went back through the comics I had collected until that point. It still amazes me that I was a fan of yours before I KNEW that I was a fan of yours (if that makes any sense)!
I was entering into my teenage years when THE NEW TEEN TITANS was released. I grew up with a Titans comic always close at hand. The books by you and Mr. Marv were a great source of escapist adventure that helped me through a rough growing period in my life. The work by you and Mr. Marv also was a great introduction to the worlds of literature and fine art for me. I do not think I would have the love for the visual and written arts that I have today if not for the foundation built by you, Mr. George. After many trials and tribulations in my adult life, I decided to return to college and try to build a career on the two things I love the most, literature and art. My goal is to become a full-time English instructor while writing and illustrating children's books. (I would brag about my grades, but it would only show how STUPID I was by not doing the same thing when I grduated from high school in '87!)
Mr. George, you have been a source of inspiration and entertainment to me for over 25 years.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
