Hi everyone,
It's with some sadness that I'm announcing the closure of the George Perez Gallery, a site I started some 6 or so years ago.
I honestly can't remember the last time I gave it a good update although I'd been adding Infinite Crisis and JSA covers when and where I could. It's been at least 2 years --maybe 3-- since I've done the site justice. I went from a horrible job where I put in 300+ hours of overtime in a year to going back to school for 18 months (only 3 'til I graduate) with 40+ hours of homework a week. I'm tired, to put it mildly. And I haven't had the time for anything "fun" in quite some time.
I've had a great opportunity to get to know a number of people through my site and through Vu's amazing work here. I feel honored to have "met" each of you even though it's never been in real life and always over the Internet. I feel --or felt-- like I'd made some good friends over the years and if those relationships were strained I also know it was my fault for that happening. And for that, I'm sorry.
As I stated above, my world's been crazy for a few years and going back to school's given me the opportunity to finally work in a creative field rather than the educational field I was in for 7 years' prior (and add another 6 for my personal post-secondary education!). I've been able to sit down and create. To draw. To imagine. Skills that were stifled for years. I was paid the biggest compliment I've ever received when I was conducting an early portfolio presentation and one lady exclaimed, "I can see George Perez's influence in that work!"
While I'll try to "drop by" the forums every once in a while, I can't guarantee anything. I'll still continue to order copies of Pacesetter (although I missed a few issues, but lucked into them on eBay) and do my best to set something up, web-wise, if I start to get "the itch" again.
Thank you, everyone, for your words of encouragement over the years and the friendship you've offered. And a special thank you to Vu for his great site which I happened upon just as I finished mapping my site. And another special thank you to Andy Mangels for giving me a fond memory when I received my George Perez Archives. Inside joke, sorry.
Oh man! How could I forget the biggest thank you ever?!?!? George... Mr. Perez, thank you for decades of giving me fanboy moments. I was hooked on New Teen Titans after reading a single issue (#33) and spent many years collecting anything with your name attached to it. You've given me numerous fond memories in my comic collecting days and are the only artist who ever forced me to put down a book and "walk it off": Barry Allen's return in Infinite Crisis. Thank you.
Thanks everyone and see you... "around."
